Spanish Omelette is THE HORMONAUTS ‘ fifth album. This beautiful, varied and innovative album, mixes, like a crazed blender, a myriad of stiles and genres, from Rockabilly to Electronica, dropping quotes and upturning stones from music's vast history, but never straying so far from the roots as to be forced or convoluted. Joining the usual trio of Andy (voice and guitar), Sasso (double-bass) and Pinna (Drums) on this adventure, is English DJ, Kenny Diezel (one of the original members of the Mutoid Waste Company- a collective of post-industrial sculptors and artists of which Andy is also a part). This album is an extremely clever mix (at moments reminiscent of Beck's ''Mellow Gold'' and ''Odeley'') in which distant and almost irreconcilable sounds are juxtaposed entirely naturally and coherently. There's a bit of everything in there-Rock, Folk, Pop, Punk, Electronic-all executed by the band with great maturity and originality, constantly pulling something new out of their top-hat, song after song. The lyrics are cryptic and ironic, from a self efacing Andy Macfarlane, the Scottish band-leader who arrived in italy as a busker 16 years ago. We are invited to listen to pieces of his autobiography through songs like ''Sitting In A Parking Lot'', one of the three single from the album, with a video produced by Cristiano Pinna. Another single was the cutting and sarcastically comic, ''Porno Stuntman'', with it's video produced by Italian TV channel, All Music, featuring and edited by GipTM, popular TV comedian. The raw and incredibly confident craftsmanship of the band, piecing together a series of home-recordings and musical ''jokes'' (irony and playfulness are ever-present in this album), sounds different and new in every song and clearly demonstrates that if one has good musical ideas then there are no barriers between genres and no real technical obstacles. This gives the album a freshness missing from other records and removes that studio-produced veneer often found on even the best new compositions. Here everything seems to surge forth naturally e spontaneously. This is a record that will sound fresh even in the years to come, just like all masterpieces. Rendering the album more precious is the addition of a third single ''Tre Notti Di Fila'', a bonus track already being aired on Italian radio and the first song in Italian by the band.
