Album of italian jazz recorded in 1960 in Rome, and performed live after one year on the San Remo Jazz Festival. The album includes the superb title track written by Sandro Brugnolini and inspired by the sound of 'Kind of blue' and the theme of 'Milestones'. The long intro of this track was used by Sandro to recreate a similar atmosphere to the film 'Ascenseur pour l'Echafaud', and was used for the Italian documentry 'Giorno dopo giorno' (day by day). The album is of course dedicated to the sound of Miles Davis, and the track 'Miles Before and After' represents and synthetizes the sound of M.J.G at 100%. The choice of 'Miles' in the title also comes from the comedy of Plauto 'Miles Gloriosus' (in old latin language the 'Miles' meaning 'soldier' - in this comedy the 'miles gloriosus' means 'swaggering soldier'... The album also includes a great composition by Carlo Metallo 'Joan-Tet' with a very similar sound to the classic basso-valdambrini composition, and 'jeenya' composed by Umbero Santucci. Umberto is the brother of Cicci (and in 1960 was the president of the roman jazz club) and this track was inspired by 'giant steps' but also from the harmony of 'cherokee'!! The track 'C.D.J.' was composed by Enzo Scoppa and it means 'Coppa del jazz', it's a very original track and different from the californian style tracks of the same period! The last track of the album 'Flying boy' was used for the italian tv program 'Ragazze del sabato', and the title 'Flying boy' is dedicated to the son of Sandro Brugnolini called Mario, born during the recording session!
