To celebrate the thirty Anniversary of Nino Rota's death, GDM Music releases a 3 CD Box set that collects the most representative themes from the soundtracks composed by the Maestro for Cinema. The anthology features all the main themes from the Federico Fellini's movies, from ''Lo sceicco bianco'' to ''Prova d'orchestra'' through ''I vitelloni'', ''La strada'', ''Il bidone'', ''Le notti di Cabiria'', ''La dolce vita'', ''Otto e ½'', ''Giulietta degli spiriti'', ''Satyricon'', ''Roma'', ''Casanova'' e ''Amarcord''. Among the other titles also those composed for the movies of Luchino Visconti (The white nights, Rocco and his brothers, Boccaccio 70, The leopard), Renato Castellani (Sotto il sole di Roma, E' primavera, Il brigante), Eduardo De Filippo (Spara forte più forte non capisco, Napoli milionaria) Mario Monicelli (Un eroe dei nostri tempi), Franco Zeffirelli (The taming of the shrew, Romeo and Juliet),Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather,The Godfather - part II for which Rota in 1974 won the Oscar for the best Film score, making his International success). The box contains some musical rarities like the inedits ''Cronache di un convento'' (aka ''The reluctant saint'') and ''Il furto della Gioconda'' , and for the first time on CD ''Il brigante'' and a new edit of ''Aria di Roma'' from ''Fellini's Roma'' As coda of the CD 3 some bonus tracks are contained: - the theme from Romeo and Juliet, played by Severino Gazzelloni at flute and by Luciano Michelini at piano; - the theme L'Uccello magico from ''Il Casanova di Federico Fellini'', performer at piano by the Academy Award winner Luis Bacalov; - Prologo from ''La vita di Maria'', sacred representation for voices, choir and orchestra composed by the Maestro on the life Virgin Maria; - the themes of Napoli milionaria, Kay and Guardando il Fuji-Yama from rare 1976 live recordings in Japan. |
