For the first time on CD the beautiful score composed by Piero Piccioni for the movie "Mimě Metallurgico, ferito nell'onore" directed by Lina Wertmuller in 1972 and interpreted by a wonderful Giancarlo Giannini with Mariangela Melato, Agostina Belli, Luigi Diberti and Turi Ferro. The movie had a international distribution with the title "The seduction of Mimě" and won important awards: Cannes Film Festival, Donatello David for best actor and others. The story is about a young sicilian named Carmelo Mardocheo also called Mimě (Giancarlo Giannini) that has just lost his job because has refused to give his vote to a mafia politician. He is forced to emigrate to Turin leaving his very young wife Rosalia at home (Agostina Belli). In Turin he falls in love of a young woman named Fiore (Mariangela Melato) that gives him a son. Back in Catania he finds out that his wife is pregnant because a police man with 5 sons! He can't shoot hi because of some honour rules and also because his north life experience has made him more civilized, so he decides to avenge himself making pregnat the fat and ugly wife of the police man (Elena Fiore). When he is about to telling the police man the truth publicly, the Mafia kills the police man and puts the gun in his hand. Convicted and put in jail, when again free Mimě finds a real crowd waiting for him, his wife, his lover from Turin and the police man widow, with all their sons. In order to take care for all fo them he is forced to work for the Mafia but at the end Fiore quits him. The grotesque tone of the movie is wonderfully underlined by the music of Piero Piccioni, one of the great Maestro of music for Cinema. The Maestro had collaborated with Lina Wertmuller for "Tutto a posto e niente in ordine" (1973) and for "Travolti da un insolito destino nell'azzurro mare d'agosto" (aka "Swept away" 1974). This CD lasts 58.10 minutes and has the original sterero material printed in the original CINEVOX LP MDF33/53 and some stereo material not included in that LP. A peculiar thing is to note that a lot of this material wasn't used in the movie because the Director made use of some Verdi compositions and some repertoire songs, Italian national Hymn included! Anyway, this CD keeps all the music written by the great Maestro for the movie and will make an excellent addition to your collection!
