In 1968, a beautiful girl named Nicole is found raped and murdered in the French Alps. After a few years, in Venice, the same happens to another beautiful girl with red hair named Roberta, who had just arrived from Amsterdam to Venice to be with her father and is found dead in the cold waters of the Venice Lido. Her father, desperate for the fate of the adored daughter, tormented by guilt and by the discovery that she had been raped by the murderer, decides to search for the culprit. After a long, troubled and exhausting search, he discovers that his daughter's death is part of a long series of crimes occurred in the city of Venice and also a terrible, horrifying truth that is hidden through the narrow streets of the lagoon. The music composed by Ennio Morricone for this movie are wonderful and give the story a moving sensitivity that involves. The first composition that gives the title of the film is a lullaby sung by a chorus of girls. With their little voices characterized by high tones and constantly and obsessively repeating the notes of the chorus, through their disturbing repetitiveness they report a traumatic event suffered by them. This piece of undisputed and indisputable originality will surely be remembered in time by viewers and fans of the great Maestro Morricone. During the movie, the songs included in the various scenes would be sufficient to instill fear in the viewer, anxiety and pathos... These songs, with their atmosphere and their strange sounds, don't need to resort to a sudden surge in volume, as is usual now, to give the scenes the touch of suspense and thriller that the director wanted to give them. Again, as in this case, Maestro Morricone amazes us and confirms the great, incomparable, versatile musician, he has always proved to be. |
