IMPUTAZIONE DI OMICIDIO PER UNO STUDENTE (aka CHRONICLE OF A HOMICIDE is a dramatic movie directed in 1972 by Mauro Bolognini and starring Massimo Ranieri, Martin Balsam, Valentina Cortese, Turi Ferro, Salvo Randone, Mariano Rigillo. We're in Rome . During a clash between police and joint protestors of workers and students, a policeman and a student are killed, but the latter was not shot by a gun of the police. The investigating judge Sola (Balsam) -in charge of the case together with two commissioners- tend to believe the police version, the student would be killed by one of the protesters, while the police officer was killed by Massimo Trotti (Diberti), a student of architecture, belonging to an extremist political group. Apparently, these are the facts. Massimo will be judged in court. But Alfio Sola (Ranieri), the son of the judge, is the responsible of the murder. Advised by comrades, in vain Alfio testifies in favor of Massimo Trotti. Having failed to help Trotti, Alfio confesses his guilt to his father, who immediately orders the release of the defendant, resigns and throws the proof of the guilt of his son into the Tiber river. Ennio Morricone has composed a score in which emerges a desperate main theme, performed masterfully by the voice of Massimo Ranieri and reprised in instrumental versions for orchestra and choir, with sometimes dissonant passages alternated to electronics experimental. GDM presents this CD (31:40) assembled from the master tape in stereo of the original album, including GENTE GRIDA, a track by Fiorenzo Fiorentini (1920-2003), which instead was not included in the first reissue on CD. It was not possible to locate the session master tapes. However in the film there is not much more music, apart from the instrumental version of the song used four times in the film, including in the TITOLI DI TESTA, at the behest of director Mauro Bolognini who had particularly enjoyed the instrumentation of the Maestro. The material has been restored and digitally re-mastered.
