Out of print for several years and sought after by collectors, here on the market once again is one of Ennio Morricone's musical masterpieces, IL MAESTRO E MARGHERITA, a film directed in 1972 by Aleksandar Petrovic and based on a novel by Mikhail Bulgakov published between 1966 and 1967. The cast includes Ugo Tognazzi, Mimsy Farmer, Alain Cuny, Velimir 'Bata' Zivojinovic, Pavle Vujisic, Fabian Sovagovic, Ljuba Tadic, Zlato Munidic, Danilo 'Bata' Stojkovic, Taško Načić, Fahro Konjhodzic, Ratomir Reljc, Janez Vrhovec, Eugen Verber and Branka Veselinovic.
Moscow, 1925. During the final rehearsal of the drama "Pontius Pilate" by the titular maestro Nikolaj Maksudov, Satan, in the guise of black magic practitioner Professor Woland and assisted by Azazillo and Koroviev, ultimately manages to secure the internment of Nikolaj in an asylum. The sweet Margherita, a policeman's wife who is in love with Nikolaj, is unable to obtain an explanation for his imprisonment or reach out to her beloved. Eventually, Nikolaj miraculously appears at the premiere of his drama, but then dies abandoned in the bed where he was tied up with a straitjacket. Margherita is alone in the abandoned theater, terrified and charged by the police.

At the time, RCA released only a single (in Italy and France), but this monothematic OST of rare beauty featuring lovely vocalisms of Edda Dell'Orso is undoubtedly one of the milestones of the two-time Oscar-winning Roman musician.
Now available again on CD packaged in a jewel case with mastering by Claudio Fuiano and Daniel Winkler, liner notes by Claudio Fuiano and graphic layout by Alessio Iannuzzi.
