Modesta partenza per la collezione Excalibur Collection di Intrada, rimanendo apparentemente con le colonne sonore di Miklos Rozsa, ma viaggiamo verso le sue scritture corali. Il progetto è tra i preferiti del nostro direttore, Allan Wilson, che comprende dodici presentazioni corali tratte da Ben-Hur e King of Kings, preparati per esposizioni pubbliche, dalle scuole, cori di chiesa, anche se non necessariamente presentando tutte e dodici le tracce. La maggior parte sono state organizzate da Rozsa poco dopo l'uscita dei rispettivi film (1959, 1961), edito da Robbins Music, dipartimento editoriale della MGM, e con ognuno aggiunse al coro o pianoforte o organo. In questa registrazione si sentono le versioni con organo. Due includono materiale appena composti, "The Mother's Love", "The Sermon On The Mount'' che li rende due brani di particolare interesse. Rozsa fece tentativi di trascrivere letteralmente le sonorità dei suoi pezzi orchestrali, utilizzando i colori, le idee meglio rappresentabili in temi corali. Lavorando con conduttore Wilson e produttori Paul Wing e Paul Talkington, è stato naturale coinvolgere i superbi cantori della Cattedrale di Westminster. Tale rapporto fortuito ha portato alle attuali registrazioni corali. Oltre i "The Twelve Choruses", questo CD Intrada dispone della versione originale corale di Rozsa, tratto dal testo di ''The Twenty-Third Psalm, Op. 34.", che rimane uno dei brani corali più impegnativi di Rozsa, con svariati toni centrali che mantengono alto l'interesse. The heavens rang with a song full of love in praise of the Holy Child so fair. Oh glory be to the Father on high and glory to the son, Jesus. May peace on earth fill heaven again as we sing of good will to all men. Oh, lullaby, little one, softly sleep, while angels their vigil keep.
