John Wayne Fox, non un insieme di film, ma una selezione tra quelli straordinariamente divertenti. Il Comancheros (1961), basato sul romanzo del 1952 di Paul I. Wellmann e diretto da Michael Curtiz, grande regista che aveva lavorato ad alcuni classici tra i più amati di tutti i tempi (Casablanca, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Captain Blood, Angels With Dirty Faces, The Sea Hawk, Yankee Doodle Dandy, The Sea Hawk, Yankee Doodle Dandy, Mildred Pierce, White Christmas, giusto per citarne alcuni. I protagonisti erano Wyne, Stuart Whitman, Ina Balin, Lee Marvin, Nehemiah Persoff e Bruce Cabot. Film bellissimo con splendida fotografia e una colonna sonora travolgente di Elmer Bernstein. A quel tempo, Bernstein aveva appena scritto quello che sarebbe diventata una delle colonne sonore western più iconici di sempre, I Magnifici Sette. Il Comancheros era il suo follow-up western, e come il film abbellisce, splendida fotografia e piena di azione e avventura. Colonna sonora piena di melodie e ironia. Un anno prima, il John Wayne Fox lavorava al western North to Alaska, un grande, tentacolare commedia western con protagonista the Duke, Stewart Granger, Capucine, Ernie Kovacs e il teenager rubacuori Fabian. La colonna sonora, accreditata unicamente a Lionel Newman, ma contenente musiche di molti altri. Ha una musica di Mike Phillips, una bella canzone per Fabian intitolata ''If You Knew'' e alcuni spunti originali orchestrali di Newman. Arriviamo al terzo film western del Fox Wayne, il film del 1969 The Undefeated, interpretato da Wayne e Rock Hudson, insieme a Roman Gabriel, Lee Meriwether, , Ben Johnson , Jan- Michael Vincent , Harry Carey Jr. , Paul Fix , Richard Mulligan , John Agar e Dub Taylor. La musica di Hugo Montenegro per The Undefeated con temi forti e senso della narrazione. Come per molte colonne sonore western ha un tema principale agitato , qualche tema drammatico, alcuni spunti messicani e anche un hoedown. Entrambi, La Comancheros e The Undefeated sono state rilasciate in precedenza su CD dalla FSM, e North to Alaska invece rilasciato da Intrada, entrambi ora, sono fuori stampa e nel caso di The Comancheros, da molti anni. Ma siamo lieti di proporli in un unico doppio CD, tutti rimasterizzati per questa versione.
